Go on a Hike!

San Diego has so many places to hike and a lot of them are free. Here’s some of the most popular places to hike that your family could go to:

Torrey Pines – The most scenic hike! The ocean is all you can see and smell, which makes the hike that much more enjoyable knowing that the end destination is a beautiful beach to run into after.

Potato Chip Rock – The famous “living on the edge” picture you see everywhere. This hike is a hard one and definitely for a more experienced hiking family. The end is worth it though and is so satisfying.

Three Sisters Falls Trails – Getting there is extremely challenging, but it’s completely worth it in the end. This is one of the hardest trails in San Diego, but one of the most popular because of the beautiful waterfalls. When you make it to the waterfalls, sit back, relax, and enjoy that picnic you packed for the family.

Don’t forget the water!

Go to the Beach!

After an exhausting hike, what’s better than relaxing at the beach all day? Here’s some of the best beaches to visit in San Diego:

Garbage Beach at Sunset Cliffs – The name doesn’t give it justice. AT ALL. The name might not sound appealing, but the beach itself is beautiful. You do have to hike down some rocks to get to the beach, but that’s what makes this beach so nice. It feels so secluded from everything else, it’s like a little escape to paradise.

La Jolla Cove – Go check out the sea lions that aren’t afraid to say hi! Walk through the little cave by the stairs to get the best pictures. When you’re done at the cove, walk down a couple blocks to the La Jolla Tide Pools to get even more pictures of the sea life on this rocky beach. This will make for a scenic, memorable day with lots of pictures with the family.

Moonlight Beach – This beach is the most popular beach for families. Whether you’re into swimming, surfing, fishing, volleyball, or tennis, this beach has it all. Did I mention the snack bar for those midday cravings? Enjoy a full day at the beach just relaxing and taking in the sun.

Fiesta Island – Grab your dog, pack food for the entire day, and head over to Fiesta Island. Pick your spot and unload everything to have a full day of family fun on Fiesta Island. Go swimming in the bay with your dog, stroll around the island, or lay out under an umbrella to enjoy the day. You can bring and do anything you want here. Many families bring kites to fly and their fishing gear to go fishing.

Go to a Museum!

Museum of Contemporary Art San DiegoGluckman Mayner Architects

Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego – Both the La Jolla and the downtown locations are free every third Thursday of the month from 5-7 pm.

Balboa Park – Stroll through Balboa Park and enjoy the beautiful architecture. While you’re there, check out some of the museums. A select number of museums are free on Tuesdays for San Diego residents only.

Hope you enjoy a free, fun month with your family!
